POPFEST NYC
presents

Allo Darlin' (UK) - 9:15
The Smittens (VT) - 8:30
Cotton Candy (MA) - 7:45

Cotton Candy is Mark Robinson (of Unrest, Flin Flon and Teenbeat Records) and Evelyn Hurley (of Blast off Country Style) and sometimes their kids too. They sing cover songs and advertisements from days of yore and other ditties and are quietly hysterical and the music is fun and poppy.

The Smittens are a five-piece indiepop band from Burlington, Vermont and like to think of themselves as a DIY twee pop explosion. Dana Kaplan, Colin Clary, David Zacharis, Holly Chagnon, and Max Andrucki switch up instruments, song-writing, and singing to create brilliantly lyrical and hyper-catchy pop songs of all colors, shapes and sizes. Formed on a whim at a party in 2002 by a group of popkids who wanted to make for their friends the kind of music they love, the Smittens have emerged as one of the country's best-loved underground indiepop quintets.

Allo Darlin' – Uke-wielding indie-folkster Elizabeth Morris and her friends play their breezy, witty pop tunes, indisputable girl-pop masterpieces each and every one, and bittersweet funny, like The Magnetic Fields playing forgotten outtakes from Joni Mitchell’s Blue. They've been signed to one of the great indie labels, played sold-out shows in Germany and Sweden, wowed the crowds at the Indietracks, toured the UK and recorded an album. They've received airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6music and XFM, and had glowing reviews in places such as the Metro, The Fly and The Guardian, the latter calling their "Henry Rollins" single on WeePOP! Records "the best indiepop song for years". Follow-up “The Polaroid Song” made Drowned In Sounds Top Fifty of 2009.

Pants Yell! is a group of three young men that hail from the red brick sidewalks of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Andrew Churchman and Sterling Bryant formed the band three years ago within the walls of a Boston art school, and have since released albums and singles aimed at the hearts of an international group of journal writers, unrequited lovers, liberal arts majors, and romantic adolescent daydreamers. This will be the final NYC live performance by Pants Yell!

Tender Trap – Led by ex-Talulah Gosh and Heavenly founder Amelia Fletcher, the now five strong Tender Trap sound brimful with energy, ideas and that unquenchable pop spirit, making the kind of classic indiepop that puts most current bands to shame. After a prolonged hiatus, Tender Trap are back with two brand new band members: Katrina Dixon (ex Police Cat, Sally Skull) on drums and vocals and Elizabeth Darling (Allo Darlin') on keyboards, guitar and vocals. The first show with the new line-up was at the London Popfest in Feb 2009.
